It’s About the Process

The human body is full of several systems: circulatory, excretory, respiratory, nervous, and others. This means that there is a process as to how each system operates to keep us going. If the human body operates in a process, meaning complete steps to achieve a specific goal, then why do we as humans feel that we do not have to go through a process in our daily lives?

There are so many news headlines of people acting out of control when things do not go their way. When things go wrong, it’s not that something bad is happening to you, but it is a part of a process. A process consists of taking some necessary steps to accomplish a task. This task could be ordering food, driving, taking a train to work, or getting dressed in the morning.

When something goes wrong, we need to ask what happened and see what happened during the process. This idea could benefit the working world as well. When an employee does something wrong, we need to find out what steps were taken and where they went wrong in the process. When you reflect on how you achieved the outcome, it becomes a learning tool for employers to use to improve the work, resulting in better and stronger outcomes. Most of all, the staff person is learning and not being blamed. This is accountability, where we take inventory of our actions to improve our effectiveness.

Understanding the process also helps in our personal relationships. When we go through the dating process of taking our time to get to know a person, we can see them for who they really are. This means we have to recognize the red flags, or warnings, as well as the green flags, or their strengths, to see if they are worthy of dating or making a good friend. Mate selection is a process of figuring out the 80% of a person that you want and the 20% of a person that you can accept as their flaws and weaknesses. This is mostly based on your core value system and knowing if you want marriage, partnership, children, and other life qualities. This means that we can hold ourselves accountable in mate selection and also who we have in our circle of friends, and setting boundaries with loved ones.

With accountability throughout the process, this prevents firings, improving productivity and staff morale at the workplace. In terms of dating, it prevents wasting time dating people we are incompatible with, and not giving more time than we need to. The problem with the world is that mistakes are seen as a failure. However, mistakes need to be seen as opportunities to teach or learning tools for life and work.

A wise person once said that the road to success is always under construction. This means that something can usually go wrong, so we have to be able to learn from those problems so we can have more wisdom and build a strong foundation. When we learn from our mistakes, we can see what steps we need to take next time to do better and achieve the outcomes we want in life.
