Gain Clarity to Achieve Wellness

“Knowing Your Values Brings Clarity and Wellness”

Many times in life, we will be faced with challenges. When we face challenges, we tend to go crazy trying to figure out all of the answers right away, or getting down in the dumps. These reactions are healthy since human beings are full of emotions and thoughts. However, when do we decide to take a step back, look at the bigger picture, and find our sense of responsibility and sense of self in our lives?

There’s one major aspect of facing challenges – clarity. Having a clear sense of your core values creates a sense of calmness in the midst of a storm. It is hard to think straight when we don’t have a foundation to work with and build on. When we find ourselves by ourselves or with several unhealthy relationships, it’s important to find out our core values and then realize our place in the world based on values and interests. It’s okay to stumble and mess up, but not okay to stay where you feel misunderstood, mistreated, disrespected, or stay in a place we have outgrown. When we know our values, we make decisions based on our value system. This impacts where we belong, spend our time, and how we create and maintain relationships.

Another factor is belonging, which can provide a grounded sense of identity. That can be found by switching your mind from what’s wrong with me, changing to where do I belong? Human beings by nature are social creatures and human connection is crucial for survival. When we spend time trying to fit in, we lose sight of who we are and end up living our lives based on the opinions of others. It is okay to want to belong, but we lack clarity in who we are when we make social acceptance our main pathway to a healthy social life. When we find ourselves struggling to fit in, we can go back and reflect on our core values, to see if the people and situations we go through, are in sync with our values.
